Robert P. Bittel
Bittel Vision Care Centers have been at the forefront of eye and vision care, including laser vision correction, for over 25 years in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Bittel has been involved in laser vision consultation since 1998, when the FDA first approved laser for vision correction. Dr. Bittel has served on the advisory board of a national laser center.
Dr. Bittel received his Bachelor of Science degrees from both the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1981. He graduated with a Doctor of Optometry Degree in 1983, earned a Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry in 1991 and Board Certification in 2010.
Dr. Bittel is active in local, state and national optometric organizations. He is the past president of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association in 2010 and currently serves as the chairman of the American Optometric Association H.P.C. Dr. Bittel has served on optometric advisory committees for both UPMC and Highmark Blue Shield. Dr. Bittel’s clinical interests include ocular disease treatment, glaucoma and specialty contact lenses.
Matthew R. Bittel
Dr. Matthew R. Bittel was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area. He attended the University of Pittsburgh where he was a member of the University Honors College.
After three years at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Bittel was early-accepted to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. Dr. Bittel graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 2010.
Dr. Bittel also holds a Masters of Public Health degree from Gillings School of Global Public Health of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Bittel's clinical interests include primary care of glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, eye disease, primary medical eye care, comprehensive family eye care, and public health policy. Dr. Bittel enjoys fishing, scuba diving, skiing, traveling, and Steelers football.
